Fundraising's New Face: VOS
Active 20/30 club
is mixture of Generation X & Y
Generation
X and generation Y have long been outsiders to the
world of philanthropy, as organizations find it
difficult to bait these younger groups. The local
Active 20-30 clubs are changing this notion, and
linking volunteers in their 20's and 30's for a
great cause. The Valley of the Sun Active (VOS)
Active 20-30 is preparing for their 14th annual
fundraising event, VIVA Las Vegas, which proceeds
benefit several children's charities including Florence
Crittenton. Last year's Viva Las Vegas attracted
over 400 people and netted an astounding $44,000.
The proceeds from Viva Las Vegas benefits the Valley
Kids Foundation and Florence Crittenton, both of
which are 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations providing
funds and services to local children in need.
In
many cases members of Generation X & Y want to be
involved with philanthropic activities, but they
are either disconnected from their communities or
are turned off by the culture and images associated
with longstanding charities. Unlike their baby-boomer
parents, members of Generation X and Generation
Y were not part of massive social movements, so
they don't always have the experience and knowledge
about how to get started in charitable work.
VOS's
tremendous success is largely due to the fact that
it gives members of Generation X & Y a chance to
become more connected to their community. Many of
the volunteers did not grow up in Phoenix. Younger
generations are so much more mobile than any other
generation and the woman in the club are looking
to connect with people who share their same values
and want a sense of feeling at home. To help attract
young supporters, VOS 20-30 relies heavily on the
social networks of its volunteers.

Valley Kids Foundation is the 501(c) (3) philanthropic
arm of The Valley of the Sun Active 20-30 Club,

Valley of the
Sun Active 20-30 Club
Donates $20,000 to Children's Charity
At
a special reception earlier this month, Phoenix-based
Valley of the Sun Active 20-30 Club awarded a total
of $20,000 to Florence Crittenton, an organization
serving girls, boys and families in need in the
Phoenix metropolitan area. The donated funds are
proceeds from the club's annual "Viva Las Vegas"
event, which was held on April 26, 2003.
Valley
of the Sun Active 20-30 Club is a nonprofit organization
of professional women who are committed to making
a significant contribution to children's charities
in the Valley. Since 1988, the club has contributed
more than $300,000 to children's charities and volunteered
countless hours to hands-on activities, working
directly with children in need. Over the years,
the club has worked closely with Florence Crittenton,
donating monies raised to help build a new campus
and spending time with the girls of the residential
group home.
"Valley
of the Sun Active 20-30 Club's support is an integral
part of Florence Crittenton and our services," said
Christy McClendon, director of volunteer services
for Florence Crittenton. "Because of the club's
support, our girls have opportunity to be exposed
to wonderful community support, but also because
of you, our girls have opportunity to be exposed
to social, recreational, educational and cultural
opportunities they would otherwise not be exposed
to," McClendon continued.
"We
deeply appreciate the many community members, including
our generous sponsors Great Southwest Mortgage,
GE Franchise Finance, S & S Sales Ltd. and Enterprise
Fleet Services, all of whom further our efforts
to raise funds and to support organizations like
Florence Crittenton," said Capri DeModica, outgoing
president of Valley of the Sun Active 20-30 Club.
The
club's primary fundraising vehicle is the "Viva
Las Vegas" event, which features casino-like gaming,
dancing, live music, a dinner buffet and silent
auction. Viva Las Vegas 2004 is scheduled for April
17 at The Phoenix Symphony Hall Terrace.
Information
about the club and the event are available by calling
(602)452-2030 or by emailing info@vos2030.com.
