At
Florence Crittenton, the mission is to ensure
that every child and family served by Florence
Crittenton gains a sense of self worth and the
capacity to achieve their full potential. Florence
Crittenton helps boys and girls discover strength
and self-worth to become independent and successful
adults in our community. Florence Crittenton
serves over 2,500 youth and families each year.
Providing
services for more than a century, Florence Crittenton
is the intersection where girls, ages 10 to
18, discover the support of a caring community
and the possibility of a bright new future.
Florence Crittenton programs have continually
evolved to meet the changing needs of Arizona's
youth. Counselors, clinicians and educators
have designed the programs to be flexible enough
to accommodate individual needs, but structured
and disciplined enough to foster learning, progress
and positive results. Service programs include:
Residential
Group Home: Florence Crittenton's primary
program is its Residential Group Home for girls
age 12 to 18. The Home acts as a safe haven,
while providing a full range of individualized
services and structured learning. The focus
is on helping girls develop a sense of self-worth
and an opportunity to grow into independent,
successful young women. Residential girls are
provided with shelter, clothing, meals, treatment,
psychiatric counseling, structured recreation,
personalized educational programs and social
development skills.
Independent
Living (IL): Florence Crittenton case managers
provide home-based training and support to youth
aging out of the State's foster care system,
offering them the opportunity to develop and
practice their self-sufficiency skills. Case
management services include: goals and decision
making, money management, education and career
planning, job seeking and job maintenance, and
identifying safe and affordable housing.
Successful
Teen Parent (STP): Young girls in crisis
often need specialized training and educational
support to learn how to become responsible and
effective parents. Florence Crittenton's Successful
Teen Parent program provides this invaluable
service, while also offering participants individualized
case management, community referral and life
skills training.
Crittenton
Youth Academy (CYA): Crittenton Youth Academy
is an NCA-accredited charter school serving
junior high and high school students. It offers
alternative education to students who require
instruction on an individual basis. The overriding
principle is that all students, regardless of
emotional or learning disabilities, past school
failures or poor motivation, can succeed in
school given the right setting and the right
educational approach.
Women
Involved in Nurturing Girls Self-Esteem (WINGS):
WINGS is a highly structured mentoring program
that pairs Florence Crittenton girls with women
from the local community. Healthy adult mentoring
relationships give girls a new outlook on the
value of education, career goals and their own
sense of self-worth.
Successful
Teens Achieving Readiness for Independence (Star-I):
An additional mentoring pilot program was launched
to begin meeting the needs of boys served through
Florence Crittenton's programs. Male mentors
are recruited to help boys develop healthy adult
relationships and start constructing a vision
of their future potential.
Living
and Learning Home: This new and innovative
transitional housing program was created to
provide girls age 17 to 21 the experience of
living independently while practicing financial
management and other self-sufficiency skills.
Program participants receive ongoing coaching
and support to achieve self-reliance while progressing
with their education and maintaining gainful
employment.
Florence
Crittenton also has several collaborative programs
and partnerships including:
Nuestra
Familia, which provides family support,
preservation and service coordination to at-risk
families living in Western Maricopa County.
Services include child welfare, behavioral and
mental health services, parenting skills, personal
and independent living skills, health education,
substance abuse and referral services.
Family
Builders, which provides home-based support
services to families residing in South/Central
Phoenix and Southwestern Maricopa County with
the goal of ensuring safe and nurturing homes
for children and all family members.
New
Beginnings: On May 3, 2003, Florence Crittenton
celebrated the grand opening of its new campus.
The capacity of the Residential Group Home doubled,
the number of students at the Crittenton Youth
Academy has tripled, and the community service
programs such as IL, STP, and WINGS have expanded
tremendously. Overall, this new facility has
allowed Florence Crittenton to better meet the
needs of the youth it serves.
